My name is Wendy
Wilton.
I would like to thank the many people who’ve voiced their
support and encouragement during my first campaign and again
for a second term in the Vermont Senate, representing Rutland
County.
I am very concerned that Vermont has become unaffordable, due
to high taxes and regulation. This has led to the loss of our
young people and limited our small businesses from growing.
While all candidates claim to want to grow
the economy and create jobs, I have nearly two decades’ worth
of experience in that field, first as a banker helping small
business owners and as a small business advisor. I am
dissappointed that the majority of the Vermont legisalture continues
to vote against the interests of small business or refuses to
take up issues that would improve our business climate. I organized
a bi-partisan business caucus for the Vermont legislature but
the majority party felt so threatened that they refused to make
the leadership bi-partisan. As a result, little was accomplished
of real value to help the buisness clinmate of the state.
I know firsthand, from the clients
I work with, the problems and challenges affecting the region’s
job creators, and I’m committed to helping solve them by supporting
strategies to stabilize electric and insurance rates (including
health insurance and workers' compensation), make the permitting
process fair and environmentally sound, encourage crucial
transportation projects, and lower taxes. The cost of living
here is one of the reasons why our youth don't stay, we must
act to change this trend.

I
am committed to improving public safety, one of the first obligations
of any good government. In the last Biennium I sponsored Jessica's
Law in Vermont and I was instrumental in ensuring that the Sex
Offender bill included minimum, mandatory sentencing for aggravated
sexual assault and more access to the sex offender registry, on-line.
I was instrmental in facilitating the conference committee agreement
for the 2005 corrections bill. .In 2004 I spearheaded the campaign
for an on-line registry of sex-offenders, even before I was elected
as a member of the legisalture.
I am a native Vermonter and I graduated from UVM with
a degree in chemistry. I’ve served on the Rutland City Board
of Aldermen and numerous other local boards. My ties to the
community are deep and strong and I would be honored to serve
the wonderful residents of Rutland County should they decide
to re-elect me. During the campaign, I urge folks to talk to
me about their concerns or by email at Wiltons@sover.net.
Because I care about what’s important to all of us, I hope you
will consider a vote to re-elect Wendy Wilton for State Senate
in November.
Sincerely,
Wendy
